How will the Art community survive the Credit Crunch ?

Anyone paying attention to world events would be totally aware of the economic crisis sweeping the civilised world. One of the effects of this crisis is that most people will start to cut back on their spending. The least important things (eg discretionary spending) will be cut first and the most important things (food, water, mortgage, fuel, ...) will be cut last.
Most people would regard art as "discretionary spending" as they are not vital to life so I suspect that the art community is going to be under a lot of pressure in the coming months.
I believe that anyone selling art from a gallery will be under a lot pressure and many will consider sites like ArtMakers as a cost effective alternative.
So, is this a new opportunity for ArtMakers ?
