RareList's Premium Membership List

RareList is a community for people interested in all rare items like books, manuscripts, maps, etc

  • Peter Blue (Founder) I live and work in a typical sleepy old English town called Faversham (Kent). It has lots of old pubs, live bands, history and a creek.

I spent my earlier years in the Army travelling to many countries including Germany, Canada, Belize, Denmark and Saudi Arabia.

I spent some time working for other companies but the 9-5 thing just isn't my style. I am now in a position to work (or not) on whatever project I feel is cool and interesting - like RareList.

I have expertise in software engineering, databases, networking, search engine optimisation (SEO) and electronics.

  • Aardvarkbooks (Founder) VALUATION SERVICE Further to my demi official outline of self and Rarelist advantages below, my valuation history is:

I have advised 3 new authors on book market trends, organising 2 book signings.
I have established one Talking book for RNIB with the author. Maintained network of Secondhand book dealers/Auctions/Collectors/Event organisers/website owners

I have worked in many areas: Personnel/Man Management, Finance, Printing and Monitor/Control of Financial documents, Operations and Services, H.M.Forces, Public and Non Public Accounts, All to exacting deadlines. But all with constant upgrading and monitoring of standards.

If you have a book valued by me, I have the hard copy data base accumulated over decades to draw on. And a lifetime of intuition which has been pretty spot on. I enjoy books far more than their value, valuing authors by heart, I shall value your books using every asset I have. I also advise on selling, condition, or retaining for investment.

The above is the tip of the iceberg, I cannot list the areas I am involved in developing for the future. Best Wishes, good hunting profitable selling. R

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Established collector and vendor in 1976. (Selling to afford more wants).

I had been collecting old books since 1967. (I could just reach out of my pushchair)!!! Actually at that time it was Comics and Monthly magazines, Military books and especially Royal Air Force items.

I started to learn that fiction was not just the content, but the dustwrapper. I actually stocked a few donation libraries; by astute exchange of a book I knew to be collectable with dustwrapper, received multiple books for the library, in return, from dealers.

Travelling for many decades, did not allow accumulation of a huge collection, which always was sold off as needed. But also a theme has always been that I benefitted/established community libraries during my journeys.

I think I had often wished, and once applied to be a librarian. The joy of matching a personality with a compatable book stays with me. If it is a collector with a collectable all the better.

By 1990 I had accumulated, and dispersed many collections, and then seriously started collecting, as my journeys ended, and it seemed time to start a family.
(Not always compatible with collecting, some will agree).

So again, settled in one place, various community and charity projects presented themselves. And as usual I found my knowledge of books benefitted them, as much as my organisation and opertations/service provision background.

All of this is stated to you as background. Basically, Rarelist is a natural progression, for all the community, and book work of my past.

Rarelist is a community of interest, to be shared. So at this time my books on the site, have largely been placed for experiment while setting up the auction site. A much neglected feature by you all. Other books I placed on with an offer proviso. Feel free to set a price but explain that you will take an offer, it may help sell for you.

So my collection is not here at present. But as I have tried mainly to research and advise members as they needed help. I encourage you to have a dabble at answering peoples questions. With all my knowledge, there is always more to learn, and I have enjoyed the research, it often gets me back up to date with issues, or often completely enlightens me. Have a go!!!!

And I have tried to encourage description of the story or content of books too. That will often echo something in a viewers mind besides, the collectability of the book. Use the Forum, and discuss the author, or title and content, and update us as to the collectability of both. Your knowledge of a book you are willing to sell can enhance its appeal to buyers.

So I am here, an upaid, free user of the site, but not taking full advantage of it myself. This is such an opportunity for all to use the site, and influence the site.

Why not self advertise the site, and let potential buyers know that they can view your books as well as others here. And lets grow together.

My other subjects of interest sort of radiate out from those, although occasional the subject is so far out that even I fail to see the connection.
